Hotel Parasol Installation: London Docklands Hotel
Sun shade and protection from bad weather conditions was required for this London hotel. A combination of tables, chairs and sofas needed overhead cover for entertainment and alfresco dining. The customer wanted to combine year-round weather protection with an easy-to-use parasol solution that elimated the need to close the parasols during winter or adverse weather conditions.
The previous installation by Global Parasols in 2008 (3 jumbo 4.0m x 5.0m rectangle parasols with in-ground base fittings) was to be replaced with a new, all year-round solution. Based on the clients brief, we recommended 12 Vortex parasols (4.0 x 3.0m rectangles) with gutters, side sheets, heating and lighting. The customer had an issue with the planning authority for in-ground bases, so freestanding bases were offered.
The site now has nearly 150 metres of covered space, split over three terraces. This provides the hotel's customers with ample seating choices all year round. Outside dining areas remain cosy and warm as the Vortex Parasols are linked with gutters and fitted with side sheets to keep out the wind and rain. Heating and lighting is integrated into the parasol canopies for comfort and use long into the evenings and winter months. The hotel's deep seating areas remain popular year round as are perfectly sheltered from rain, sun and wind by the Vortex Parasols.
Due to the strength of the Vortex Parasols the hotel operators don't need to worry about managing the parasols on a day to day basis, the can concentrate on serving drinks and dinner to their customers.
